Meow Mix hosts Indie Girls

Meow Mix is a lesbian club on East Houston in New York City. We were invited there to tape an Indie Grrl night and the concerts have been lost for over 10 years now. Here you can find some of the hottest woman singing the hottest songs from a club that knows how to rock.

There were many occasions I went out to film bands in other clubs than the ones we had huge internet connections. Meow Mix was one of them. Meow Mix hosted many gay and lesbian groups and we went to tape them for the OnlineTV broadcasts. While they did not go out live they were posted within 24 hours. These girl bands were all amazing and they grew to fame as we continued to film them.

In particular we just loved Lis Havey and the Precious Things. Lis Harvey is a Guinness World Record setting folksinger. For a decade, she toured small venues in North America, sleeping in her car, and occasionally opening for other bands like Jill Sobule, Lucy Kaplansky, Tracy Grammer, Melissa Ferrick, Dayna Kurtz and LGBTQ folk sensation Girlyman.

Bands like Haley Deverstern played several venues including Acme Underground and Spiral Lounge. Her sound was more like the rock and roll from the 1960’s than anything else and her band still tours today.

The Indie Girl sets are great showcases of female oriented bands and these acts did not just play the Meow mix.

We had a great time taping these for the archives at MusicTV.com and now they are no longer lost but found!
